12 Reasons Every Christian Should Belong to a Bible‑Believing Church – Part 2

Reason 4 – The Church Is a Setting for Practicing the Ordinances

Those who accepted his message were baptized … They devoted themselves to the breaking of bread.—Acts 2:41–42

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are not private rituals. They are church ordinances—sacred acts that visibly express our identity and unity in Christ. Through baptism, believers publicly declare their identification with Christ in His death and resurrection. Through the Lord’s Supper, believers together remember Christ’s death and “proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes” (1 Corinthians 11:26).

Both ordinances are deeply communal. They remind us that salvation joins us not only to Christ but also to His people. In baptism and in sharing the bread and cup, believers affirm, “We belong to the same body, redeemed by the same Savior.”

Apart from the gathered church, these signs lose their proper context. Within the fellowship of believers, however, they become powerful testimonies of grace and belonging—personal faith expressed in corporate worship.

Baptism and Communion declare not only that we belong to Christ, but that we belong to one another.

Reason 5 – The Church Is a Setting for Praying With Others

They devoted themselves … to prayer. — Acts 2:42

Private prayer is precious, but there is a special blessing in believers praying together. When the early church gathered, they lifted their voices to God—giving thanks, seeking His help, and asking for strength and boldness. In response, God often worked in ways that reminded them of His presence and power.

Corporate prayer unites hearts around shared burdens. It keeps us from a self-centered faith by teaching us to carry one another’s concerns before the throne of grace. When one rejoices, all rejoice; when one weeps, all weep—and together, all pray.

Every prayer meeting and every heartfelt “Amen” is an expression of spiritual unity. Together, we call upon the Lord who hears the prayers of His people.

When God’s people pray together, they carry one another’s burdens before God’s throne of grace.

 Reason 6 – The Church Is a Setting for Praising God Together

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.—Colossians 3:16

Worship isn’t meant to be limited to personal moments with the Lord; it is also a shared experience where faith and gratitude rise together. When believers gather and sing, it’s not merely music—it’s mutual encouragement. Through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, we teach and admonish one another even as we praise God.

Singing in the congregation reminds us that we’re part of something far greater than ourselves. A solitary voice may waver, but when joined with others, it grows strong. Our voices express unity, our songs proclaim truth, and our gratitude gives praise to God.

Through the church’s worship, God is glorified and faith is strengthened.

When we worship together, we’re not just praising God—we’re strengthening one another’s faith.
