J. Leonard Levy (1865-1917) was Rabbi of Rodef Shalom congregation from 1901 until his death in 1917 at age 51. Born and educated in London, he was the youngest ordained rabbi n England when he became the leader of the Bristol synagogue. His views began to lean more toward Reform Judaism, and in 1889 he accepted a position as rabbi in Sacramento, California. After four years there, he became assistant rabbi at Keneseth Israel Congregation in Philadelphia.
