Antique Van Briggle Matte Blue Glazed Ceramic Swan Lamp Original Butterfly Shade

This is a vintage Van Briggle Swan lamp in the famed matte blue glaze that Van Briggle made its name with in the early years of the 20th century. It has the requisite Van Briggle mark at its base and is in excellent original antique condition, including the stunning butterfly shade. 
Gorgeous shade reminiscent of the 19th century tradition of pressed flowers and other ephemera. Flowers, butterflies and light hair or fur are held together under cellulose. Gorgeous 3-D effect especially when lit.
The Van Briggle Art Pottery was the oldest continuously operating art pottery in the United States upon its demise in 2012, having been established in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1901 by Artus and Anne Van Briggle. Artus had a significant impact on the Art Nouveau movement in the United States, and his pottery is foundational to American Art Pottery. Van Briggle came to Colorado after leaving another historic pottery, Rookwood in Cincinnati, Ohio.
