This rare 5-piece Japanese tea set is a breathtaking example of artisan porcelain work. Combining delicate Sukashibori open lattice porcelain with hand-painted sumi-e ink wash landscapes, each piece offers unique, minimalist beauty in black and white tones.
Included in this set:
(1) Side-handle teapot (Yokode Kyūsu style)
(2) Lidded tea bowls or canisters
(2) Matching tea cups (with hand-brushed scenic motifs)
All pieces are signed by the artist, with calligraphy on the bases and inside the lids — an indicator of authentic studio craftsmanship, likely from the Heisei period (circa 1990s). The porcelain produces a lovely bell-like ring when tapped.
Details:
Style: Sukashibori (pierced porcelain)
Art: Sumi-e ink wash, hand-painted
Signatures: Present on all lids and cup bases
Condition: Excellent vintage condition overall. One cup has a small chip on the rim (see photo). No other cracks or damage.
Sourced directly in Japan approx. 30 years ago by a U.S. servicemember.
