Set of 2 Pacific Northwest rare, vintage bookend art pieces are from Haida Gwaii, British Columbia, formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands, Canada. The Haida carved argillite totems and enjoyed creating three-dimensional sculptural pieces.This unique sculptured set, acquired for a private collection in the 1970's, appears to be one of the earliest replicas of the beaver totem. Minor chips and scratches are noted as part of their vintage appeal. They are either soapstone or Durastone, and the surface appears to be a black resin coating. Extremely rare copy of native art. There are some small chips. Measurements: 5.5” tall, 4” wide. More photos available upon request.
