The internal compartments house spaces for papers, letters, envelopes, pens and pencils.
Fantastic dovetailed construction.
The removable small shelf has a maker's or owner's mark on the underside: Edwin H. Eardley (?) Bookseller & Stationer, Tunstall and RD 384-841 ( according to research, Edwin H Eardley was a publisher in Tunstall)
Extremely lovely patina on the wood gives it a well used, dark coloration.
Engravable shields are present, without monograms.
