Coin alignment commonly refers to reverse die axis for this coins type and label/name. This means the obverse (face) of coin faces upright normally, but the reverse side (tails/rear) of the coin is upside down when the coin is spun 180 degrees. Typically machine struck coins have a set die axis. It varies from country to country, in the US it is 180 degrees.

All US coinage in produced with what is commonly called a “Coin Turn” that means the reverse side tails of coin is upside down to the obverse side heads. The mint still produces coinage in this manner for traditional reasons; not due to any legal requirements.

A lucky penny can be even luckier when they are considered of a certain kind. ;).
